An unexpectedly hard shot by Peter Dickner in the 36th minute of play forced Sutton on Sea's goalkeeper Stevie Bibby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 38th minute Peter Dickner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stevie Bibby saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Verwood's Peter Dickner in the 41st minute got a chance for a shot 41st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Sutton on Sea's goalie prevented a goal. Disappointed in the 0-1 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

With his leg Stevie Bibby managed to avoid a goal in the 60thth minute, when Verwood's Pete Cotterill fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Pete Cotterill could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 62nd minute of the match, but Stevie Bibby made a huge save. Sebastian Haxby took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Will Halloran, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Will Halloran in the 69th minute of play forced Verwood's goalkeeper Sebastian Haxby to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Verwood's Peter Dickner got a good chance for a goal in the 70th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 83 minutes of play, Verwood's Pete Cotterill made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Stevie Bibby was left in no man's land by his defense there! With a little luck, Sutton on Sea's Stevie Bibby got control of the ball when Pete Cotterill tried to sneak it across the goal line. Sutton on Sea's Stevie Bibby played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Peter Dickner in the 92nd minute of play. Verwood's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
