Spectators: 6713 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1713, VIP seats: 0) Ken Prince started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. Frank Kitching made an important save on a dangerous shot by Dane Forrest in the 4th minute. If Ray Rowland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 8th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Basildon United's Dane Forrest got a good chance for a goal in the 16th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Fraser Barnes made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rick Hitchcock in the 20th minute of play. 21 minutes into the match, Basildon United's goal looked a bit too open when Rick Hitchcock came free, but Fraser Barnes reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Adam Ellison kicked well hit freekick during the 24th minute of the match. Ray Rowland fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 29th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fraser Barnes having to interfere. After 39 played minutes Basildon United got a freekick which was hit by Buster Duke. After some fancy dribbling in the 45th minute, Ken Prince managed to get in a good position for a shot. Basildon United's supporters rose to their feet, but Ken Prince was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Frank Kitching breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 46th match minute, Worksop United was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Stewart Brayson to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Worksop United's Frank Kitching got control of the ball when Dane Forrest tried to sneak it across the goal line.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Ray Rowland to make the kick off. The supporters of Worksop United booed when Basildon United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Blair Lynch didn't get a good kick on the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ray Rowland in the 53rd minute of play forced Basildon United's goalkeeper Fraser Barnes to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Ken Prince struck a weak shot in the 55th minute. Frank Kitching didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Basildon United. If Ray Rowland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 62nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After some fancy dribbling in the 68th minute, Rick Hitchcock managed to get in a good position for a shot. Worksop United's supporters rose to their feet, but Rick Hitchcock was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fraser Barnes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. The audience was convinced that Todd Moon's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Fraser Barnes was relentless in the 70th minute of the game. After some fancy dribbling in the 73rd minute, Rick Hitchcock managed to get in a good position for a shot. Worksop United's supporters rose to their feet, but Rick Hitchcock was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fraser Barnes breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Frank Kitching showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ken Prince, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Dane Forrest recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 78th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In a very dangerous position, a player in Basildon United fell when an opponent tried to get the ball from him in the 82nd minute. Penalty! In the 83rd minute there was a penalty for Worksop United. Gary Hamer stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Fraser Barnes. 0-1. Rick Hitchcock who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 88thth minute tested the skills of Fraser Barnes when he managed to save the team from getting behind. If Ray Rowland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Ray Rowland in the 96th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Fraser Barnes prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Basildon United's Fraser Barnes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ray Rowland in the 98th minute of play. Worksop United's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
