Seating: 1690, VIP seats: 147) In the 3rd minute Sly Corcoran shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Frank Kitching saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. A collision led to Worksop United getting a freekick after 8 minutes play. Ralf Drury hit a great ball. The audience thought a goal was coming when Zack King got free with Frank Kitching in the 10th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Ray Rowland had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 14th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jamal Tomkin kicked well hit freekick during the 15th minute of the match. John Pallister took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ray Rowland, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Worksop United's defense didn't have a chance, in the 22nd minute, when Sly Corcoran scored to the left of an out of position Frank Kitching, making the score, 1-0. John Pallister made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Rick Hitchcock in the 28th minute of play. Ged Seagrave charged in rather forcefully in the 29th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Ged Seagrave the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 34th minute Ray Rowland shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but John Pallister saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 37 minutes into the match, Thames Lion FC's goal looked a bit too open when Ray Rowland came free, but John Pallister reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. With a little luck, Worksop United's Frank Kitching got control of the ball when Zack King tried to sneak it across the goal line. Rick Hitchcock sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.
The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Ray Rowland was the one to do the kick off. John Pallister stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Ray Rowland's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Sly Corcoran in the 57th minute of play forced Worksop United's goalkeeper Frank Kitching to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After recieving a nice pass, Worksop United's Gary Hamer tried to score from far away in the 66th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. After having played for 68 minutes, Ray Rowland managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Worksop United's supporters crossed their fingers, but Ray Rowland was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 70th minute, Ray Rowland fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. In the 72nd minute Ray Rowland shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but John Pallister saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Rick Hitchcock came up free with the goalie in the 78th minute, the Worksop United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Rick Hitchcock couldn't finish the play. John Pallister was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 95th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Franz Varley. Worksop United's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
