Marlon Seaward's late challenge caught a Newcastle UTD's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Marlon Seaward helped the player get up and apologised. In the 42nd minute, Marlon Seaward hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Rex Bird sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 2-0.

After a rather tough play, Wellingborough's Ian Sparkes got a free kick in the 53rd minute. The supporters of Wellingborough booed when Newcastle UTD was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 77 match minutes in a wonderful position. Simon Walton didn't get a good kick on the ball. Iain Cousins didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Marlon Seaward went, in the 80th minute, to the upper right corner, 4-0 was the resulting score. Rick La Forte charged in rather forcefully in the 85th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Rick La Forte the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After 85 played minutes Newcastle UTD got a freekick which was hit by Rick La Forte. In the 88th minute, Archie Hook had to leave the field with a concussion. When Keith Henwood fell near the penalty area in the 88th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Newcastle UTD's protests and gave Keith Henwood a yellow card for diving instead. In the 89th minute, Keith Henwood hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Marlon Seaward fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 92nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Iain Cousins having to interfere. In the 95th match minute, Wellingborough was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Marlon Seaward to maneuver through the defense. There was no doubt that Wellingborough were the better team. Wellingborough's players enjoyed the ovations of the crowd after the victory.
