In the 23rd minute the ball was on its way in behind Finsbury Park's goalkeeper David Lambley, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. David Lambley took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Damion Jeffrey, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Finsbury Park's zone, Jake Jones stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. David Lambley came out of the goal and Jake Jones tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jake Jones in the 30th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg David Lambley saved Finsbury Park from getting behind. Trevor Murtagh could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 32nd minute of the match, but Robert Hunter made a huge save. Jake Jones fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without David Lambley having to interfere. In the 37th minute, Alastair Creighton made a precise shot to the right of David Lambley. Finsbury Park's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 1-1. In the 41st minute, Calvin Moorhouse made a precise shot to the right of Robert Hunter. Doncaster City's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 2-1. In the 46th minute, Russell Rothery hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-1.
