Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Les Haper in the 4th minute a chance for a shot on goal. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 1-0 became the score in the 19th minute when Lucas Nelthorpe elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Verne Abbotts showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Les Haper in the 24th minute of the match. In the 25th match minute, Whitwell was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Iain Sheene to maneuver through the defense. In the 28th match minute, Whitwell was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Billy Hayes to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Les Haper in the 58th minute of play forced Whitwell's goalkeeper Verne Abbotts to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Les Haper received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 59th minute. Verne Abbotts tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Lucas Nelthorpe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 61st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Iain Sheene's late challenge caught a Farnworth's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Iain Sheene helped the player get up and apologised. A collision led to Whitwell getting a freekick after 62 minutes play. Iain Sheene hit a great ball. Verne Abbotts showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Les Haper, who was totally free with the ball in the 65th minute. Les Haper fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 67th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Verne Abbotts having to interfere. The audience thought a goal was coming when Tod Hinshelwood got free with Sebastien Dibb in the 80th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort.
