Spectators: 6706 (Terracing: 5000, Seating: 1706, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Dion Challis got the match started through his kick off. In the 8th minute there was a penalty for Knutsford AFC. Ross Nottingham stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Brett Lemerond. 0-1. After 12 minutes of play, Knutsford AFC's Dion Challis made it 0-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Brett Lemerond was left in no man's land by his defense there! An unexpectedly hard shot by Dion Challis in the 16th minute of play forced Widnes's goalkeeper Brett Lemerond to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Dion Challis received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 18th minute. Brett Lemerond tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 20 minutes, Johnnie Martin mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Knutsford AFC and the Widnes players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 20th minute, Johnnie Martin hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Brett Lemerond showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Johnnie Martin, who was totally free with the ball in the 21st minute. During the 27th minute of the match Johnnie Martin completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Johnnie Martin a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Johnnie Martin hit a great freekick 28 minutes into the match. In the 31st minute Dion Challis shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Brett Lemerond saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After having played for 35 minutes, Dion Challis managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Knutsford AFC's supporters crossed their fingers, but Dion Challis was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Basil Archer fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brett Lemerond having to interfere. Basil Archer sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rueben Chiverton kicked well hit freekick during the 46th minute of the match. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Dave Featherstone recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 55th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Jo Longstaff hit a great freekick 64 minutes into the match. Knutsford AFC's Dion Challis got a good chance for a goal in the 68th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. After 69 minutes, Basil Archer mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Knutsford AFC and the Widnes players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Knutsford AFC's Basil Archer got a free kick in the 69th minute. Martyn Goldsmith sent away a hard shot on goal in the 71st minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Martyn Goldsmith received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 75th minute. Stew Shepherd tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Martyn Goldsmith fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 81st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stew Shepherd having to interfere. Brett Lemerond showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dion Challis, who was totally free with the ball in the 82nd minute. After some careless play in the Widnes defense, Dion Challis kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Brett Lemerond. The Widnes fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Brett Lemerond should have stopped the shot. Widnes's Martyn Goldsmith got a good chance for a goal in the 92nd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. When Dion Challis came up free with the goalie in the 95th minute, the Knutsford AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Dion Challis couldn't finish the play. Basil Archer's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Brett Lemerond read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 97th minute of play. When the match was over Knutsford AFC could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Widnes throughout the match.
