When Gav Huxtable came up free with the goalie in the 21st minute, the Wheaton Aston fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Gav Huxtable couldn't finish the play. When Felix Housham fell near the penalty area in the 26th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Redbourn United's protests and gave Felix Housham a yellow card for diving instead. 31 minutes into the match, Rufus Mortimer notched a goal, 1-0, to the right of Wheaton Aston's Sebastian Forrest. Sebastian Forrest was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. After having played for 37 minutes, Trevor Summerfield managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Wheaton Aston's supporters crossed their fingers, but Trevor Summerfield was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Bill Stead showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Gav Huxtable in the 42nd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Harry Longstaff in the 44th minute of play forced Wheaton Aston's goalkeeper Sebastian Forrest to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Trevor Summerfield received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 48th minute. Bill Stead tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Trevor Summerfield was the one to do the kick off. In the 54th minute Wheaton Aston were awarded a corner. Basil Fletcher went to the cornerflag to take it. After taking down the ball on Wheaton Aston's corner Basil Fletcher fired away a hard shot, but the defenders efficiently covered the most dangerous angles and Bill Stead quite easily take care of the ball. Harry Longstaff sent away a hard shot on goal in the 56th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Kelvin Llyod fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bill Stead having to interfere. In the 64thth minute of the game Harry Longstaff who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Wheaton Aston's Sebastian Forrest was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Sebastian Forrest made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Harry Longstaff in the 70th minute of play. Timothy Price hit a great freekick 77 minutes into the match. Gav Huxtable sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Gav Huxtable fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Bill Stead having to interfere. When Harry Longstaff came up free with the goalie in the 89th minute, the Redbourn United fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Harry Longstaff couldn't finish the play. Wheaton Aston's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
