The player immediately received a yellow card. Alfie Hassell showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Devon Toovey in the 29th minute of the match. During the 30th minute of the match Russ Bator completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Russ Bator a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The supporters of 1878 Newton Heath booed when Southall United was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Russ Bator didn't get a good kick on the ball. If Devon Toovey had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Jakub Jan was the one to do the kick off. In the 81st minute, Jakub Jan made a precise shot to the right of Alfie Hassell. Southall United's defense was at fault, and the scoreboard reflected the new score, 0-7. When Luke Welch fell near the penalty area in the 84th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Southall United's protests and gave Luke Welch a yellow card for diving instead. Alfie Hassell took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Jakub Jan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Alfie Hassell stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Jakub Jan's shot from short distance in the 88th minute. The audience thought a goal was coming when Jakub Jan got free with Alfie Hassell in the 89th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 93 played minutes Southall United got a freekick which was hit by Charles Staple. 1878 Newton Heath's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
