In the 7th minute, Darryl Hargreaves left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Mossley fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-1. 18 minutes into the match, Yeovil City's goal looked a bit too open when Darryl Hargreaves came free, but Rory Fleetwood reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. After 20 minutes, Luke Rice mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Mossley and the Yeovil City players grew even worse after the yellow card. In the 20th match minute, Mossley was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Luke Rice to maneuver through the defense. Through an outstanding action, after 21 minutes, Russell Pollard successfully got his hands on the ball before it slid into the goal at the right post. Russell Pollard made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Trevor Allwright in the 25th minute of play. In the 26th match minute, Yeovil City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Miles Thorne to maneuver through the defense. In the 27th minute of the match Denny Wheeler shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rory Fleetwood showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. A collision led to Yeovil City getting a freekick after 28 minutes play. Johnny Cotterill hit a great ball. In the 33rd minute, Johnny Cotterill hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Darryl Hargreaves fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 34th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rory Fleetwood having to interfere. After 38 played minutes Yeovil City got a freekick which was hit by Johnny Cotterill. If Darryl Hargreaves had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 40th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Darryl Hargreaves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When Luke Rice came up free with the goalie in the 48th minute, the Mossley fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Luke Rice couldn't finish the play. After the first half Mossley were leading 0-2. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Trevor Allwright made the kick off in the second half. In the 53rd match minute, Yeovil City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Larry Oddy to maneuver through the defense. Darryl Hargreaves sent away a hard shot on goal in the 54th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Darryl Hargreaves's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 56thth minute, Rory Fleetwood skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. Russell Pollard dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 2-2. Darryl Hargreaves could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 74th minute of the match, but Rory Fleetwood made a huge save. Rory Fleetwood showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Darryl Hargreaves, who was totally free with the ball in the 76th minute. A hard shot 77 in the game by Darryl Hargreaves from a close distance when the talented Rory Fleetwood managed to make a qualified save. Yeovil City's players were relieved. Darryl Hargreaves who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 82ndth minute tested the skills of Rory Fleetwood when he managed to save the team from getting behind. Mossley's Sebastien Le Tissier got a good chance for a goal in the 83rd minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Luke Rice fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Rory Fleetwood having to interfere. A collision led to Mossley getting a freekick after 91 minutes play. Fred Dawes hit a great ball.
