Ashley Lydiate came out of the goal in the 27th minute to try and stop a shot by West Rainton's Dave Bowe. But to his dismay, Dave Bowe quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-1. Stew Crouch received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 32nd minute. Ashley Lydiate tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After 37 minutes of play, West Rainton's Dave Bowe made it 1-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. West Rainton's goalkeeper couldn't reach when Wayne Buckler 42 minutes into the game got a good kick on the ball which found its way into goal just inside left pole. 2-2. Austin Sheridan took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 46th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Ashley Lydiate. Kingswear United's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. The first half was very even, with the score at 2-2 when the whistle went for half-time. The players welcomed the break and quickly retired to the dressing rooms.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Dave Bowe was the one to do the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 53rd minute, Wayne Buckler managed to get in a good position for a shot. Kingswear United's supporters rose to their feet, but Wayne Buckler was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Frankie Eldridge breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Ray Linford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Frankie Eldridge having to interfere. Ashley Lydiate made a fantastic save in the 59th minute, when Stew Crouch sent off a good shot on target. In the 61st minute Dave Bowe shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ashley Lydiate saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After 61 played minutes Kingswear United got a freekick which was hit by Frankie Ash. Frankie Eldridge took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ray Linford, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Dave Bowe in the 68th minute of play forced Kingswear United's goalkeeper Ashley Lydiate to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball.
