The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fraser Kingston in the 6th minute of play forced Nunthorpe's goalkeeper Sonny Woodier to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Martyn Penn struck a weak shot in the 15th minute. Wayne Middleton didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Nunthorpe. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Martyn Penn in the 17th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Wayne Middleton prevented the ball from getting in the gole. After a defensive mix-up in Palmers Fc's zone, Martyn Penn stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wayne Middleton came out of the goal and Martyn Penn tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Martyn Fearns's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wayne Middleton read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 21st minute of play. In the 22nd minute, Jamal Slator hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Sonny Woodier took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Vincent Freeman, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 29th play minute Martyn Fearns came free and shot an unsuspected shot which went into goal from the right pole behind a surprised Wayne Middleton. 1-0. If Martyn Fearns had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 34th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Nunthorpe booed when Palmers Fc was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 41 match minutes in a wonderful position. Fraser Kingston didn't get a good kick on the ball. With his leg Wayne Middleton managed to avoid a goal in the 43rdth minute, when Nunthorpe's Martyn Fearns fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. 45 minutes into the game, Lenny Wrigley was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Palmers Fc's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Nunthorpe the free kick. In the 45th match minute, Palmers Fc was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Lenny Wrigley to maneuver through the defense. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Martyn Penn to strike the kick off in the second half. Martyn Fearns received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Wayne Middleton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Martyn Fearns, who was totally free with the ball in the 92nd minute. If Martyn Penn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 94th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead.
