Aaron Matthews fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 2nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Ty Ferrell having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Nathan Durrant in the 5th minute of play forced Brentwood City's goalkeeper Lewis Lawton to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Houghton le Spring's Ty Ferrell played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Aaron Matthews in the 7th minute of play. After a rather tough play, Houghton le Spring's Jeff Friend got a free kick in the 8th minute. Olívio Faria received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 9th minute. Ty Ferrell tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 13th match minute, Brentwood City was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Milan Kunert to maneuver through the defense. When the match had gone on for 18 minutes, Grant Lumb took a quick shot and it went in 1-0 without a chance for Ty Ferrell to make any attempt to save it. After 20 played minutes Houghton le Spring got a freekick which was hit by Graeme Woodward. If Nathan Durrant had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Nathan Durrant recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 26th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The supporters of Brentwood City booed when Houghton le Spring was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 28 match minutes in a wonderful position. Graeme Woodward didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ty Ferrell made a fantastic save in the 30th minute, when Olívio Faria sent off a good shot on target. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Olívio Faria in the 32nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Ty Ferrell saved Houghton le Spring from getting behind. Houghton le Spring's Ty Ferrell played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Olívio Faria in the 35th minute of play. Lewis Lawton showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ash Hough in the 36th minute of the match. When Nathan Durrant came up free with the goalie in the 44th minute, the Houghton le Spring fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Nathan Durrant couldn't finish the play. In the 46thth minute of the game Olívio Faria who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Houghton le Spring's Ty Ferrell was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

The audience was convinced that Olívio Faria's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Ty Ferrell was relentless in the 60th minute of the game. Lewis Lawton made an important save on a dangerous shot by Nathan Durrant in the 65th minute. With a little luck, Brentwood City's Lewis Lawton got control of the ball when Nathan Durrant tried to sneak it across the goal line. Micheal Robinson hit a great freekick 65 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Olívio Faria in the 97th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Ty Ferrell prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Brentwood City's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
