The audience was convinced that Christian Clapham's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Sean Thorn was relentless in the 27th minute of the game. In the 29th match minute, Rushden was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Christian Clapham to maneuver through the defense. Conal Chalmers received a nice pass, split the defenders, and ran untouched towards the goal. Sean Thorn came out and tried to block the shot, but Conal Chalmers slotted it home off the left post making it 1-0 in the 32nd minute. In the 36th minute, Harvey Bridgeworth got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Sean Thorn took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Conal Chalmers, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Jonny Speed fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Fitz Illingworth having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 43rd minute, Duncan Wardill managed to get in a good position for a shot. Hythe FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Duncan Wardill was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Fitz Illingworth breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Duncan Wardill recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 47th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Conal Chalmers to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Conal Chalmers in the 52nd minute of play forced Hythe FC's goalkeeper Sean Thorn to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Fitz Illingworth made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rich Hume in the 58th minute. Jonny Speed received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 60th minute. Fitz Illingworth didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Hythe FC. When Jonny Speed came up free with the goalie in the 69th minute, the Hythe FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jonny Speed couldn't finish the play. Fitz Illingworth made an important save on a dangerous shot by Rich Hume in the 71st minute.
