Thornhill Stadium
Spectators: 6726 (Terracing: 5000,
Seating: 1726, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Derek Pelc took the kick off in the first half of the match. 4 minutes had been played when some careless play by Hull FC Tigers's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Syd Fowler was slow to take the kick. During this time Thornhill's players had a chance to rest. A nice corner shot did that Syd Fowler got away a dangerous shot. Despite this Nat Brodie quite easily got ahold of the ball to make the save. When Ken Johnson fell near the penalty area in the 6th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Thornhill's protests and gave Ken Johnson a yellow card for diving instead. Ken Johnson hit a great freekick 7 minutes into the match. When Crispin Dlyan came up free with the goalie in the 11th minute, the Thornhill fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Crispin Dlyan couldn't finish the play. Nat Brodie showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Crispin Dlyan, who was totally free with the ball in the 18th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Hull FC Tigers's zone, Crispin Dlyan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Nat Brodie came out of the goal and Crispin Dlyan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Andrew Dobson during the 22nd minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. After a rather tough play, Hull FC Tigers's Andrew Dobson got a free kick in the 23rd minute. A collision led to Hull FC Tigers getting a freekick after 25 minutes play. Derek Pelc hit a great ball. A hard shot 32 in the game by Calum Booth from a close distance when the talented Nat Brodie managed to make a qualified save. Hull FC Tigers's players were relieved. Nat Brodie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Crispin Dlyan, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Crispin Dlyan's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Nat Brodie read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 35th minute of play. Calum Booth received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 37th minute. Nat Brodie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Calum Booth could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 42nd minute of the match, but Nat Brodie made a huge save. 44 minutes into the game, Thornhill's Glenn Brown nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Nat Brodie made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 1-0. Derek Pelc charged in rather forcefully in the 47th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Derek Pelc the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 48th match minute, Hull FC Tigers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Derek Pelc to maneuver through the defense. All the noise was coming from the home fans when the whistle went for half-time. The home team had fought hardest to put themselves in a deserved lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Crispin Dlyan stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Nat Brodie made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Crispin Dlyan in the 53rd minute of play. Calum Booth received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 55th minute. Nat Brodie tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Thornhill's Ken Johnson got a free kick in the 60th minute. Derek Pelc's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Sammy Tabb read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 67th minute of play. After 68 minutes of play, Thornhill's Crispin Dlyan made it 2-0 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Nat Brodie was left in no man's land by his defense there! The supporters of Thornhill booed when Hull FC Tigers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 75 match minutes in a wonderful position. Derek Pelc didn't get a good kick on the ball. Nat Brodie made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Crispin Dlyan in the 78th minute of play. In the 79thth minute of the game Calum Booth who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Hull FC Tigers's Nat Brodie was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Nat Brodie took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Calum Booth, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Andrew Dobson fired away a difficult shot at goal in the 94th minute. He almost succeeded, but the ball went over. It was a very nice shot. 97 minutes into the match, Hull FC Tigers's goal looked a bit too open when Calum Booth came free, but Nat Brodie reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Thornhill's fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
