Shap Citysad's supporters crossed their fingers, but Keiran Shipton was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Leigh Watkinson made a fantastic save in the 16th minute, when Charlie Breeden sent off a good shot on target. 19 minutes into the match, Shap Citysad's Stu Pope sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Blair Fairbank narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After a rather tough play, The Gay Village's Donald Kerr got a free kick in the 25th minute. Keiran Shipton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 28th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Blair Fairbank having to interfere. The crowd rose to their feet as The Gay Village's Eddy Whittingham slotted home a wonderful shot that went in to the left of Leigh Watkinson. That made the score 1-0 after 31 minutes of play. An unexpected shot in the 34th minute by Joe Street got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Keiran Shipton struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Blair Fairbank didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Shap Citysad. Blair Fairbank showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Reuben Cusack, who was totally free with the ball in the 41st minute. When Alan Hassell fell near the penalty area in the 42nd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored The Gay Village's protests and gave Alan Hassell a yellow card for diving instead. In the 45th minute, Simeon Ferdinand hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Keiran Shipton stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. 52 minutes into the match, The Gay Village's goalkeeper Blair Fairbank had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Stu Pope. In the 53rd minute Charlie Breeden shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Leigh Watkinson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. An unexpected shot in the 56th minute by Keiran Shipton got the crowd on their feet, but to their dismay it went out on the left side. Jamie Inman was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 58th minute. Shap Citysad's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. The Gay Village's Joe Street got a good chance for a goal in the 61st minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 62nd minute, Shap Citysad's Albert Emmerson seemed to kick out at an opponent. The referee saw this and, surprisingly, showed Albert Emmerson the red card, dismissing him from the pitch. The coaching staff of Shap Citysad protested bitterly, but the referee would have none of it, and Albert Emmerson had no choice but to slowly walk off the pitch. Albert Emmerson kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. An unexpectedly hard shot by Brendon Couch in the 64th minute of play forced Shap Citysad's goalkeeper Leigh Watkinson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a rather tough play, Shap Citysad's Reuben Cusack got a free kick in the 66th minute. Leigh Watkinson was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Reuben Cusack fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 86th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Blair Fairbank having to interfere. Alan Hassell kicked well hit freekick during the 92nd minute of the match. Shap Citysad's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
