When the match clock showed 23 minutes, the score became 1-2 when Ralph Astridge sped through Ephemeral Ghosts's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Romeo Clayton. Wally Speed charged in rather forcefully in the 26th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Wally Speed the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. The supporters of Ephemeral Ghosts booed when Minehead was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 26 match minutes in a wonderful position. Wally Speed didn't get a good kick on the ball. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Wally Speed managed to get in a good position for a shot. Minehead's supporters rose to their feet, but Wally Speed was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Romeo Clayton breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Romeo Clayton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Ralph Astridge, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Ralph Astridge made the kick off in the second half. Spike Robson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Ken Devaney, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ralph Astridge received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 62nd minute. Romeo Clayton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Romeo Clayton was out of position in the 64 minute of play, and Glenn Marsden capitalized on the mistake with a soft shot into the goal. Glenn Marsden really showed his touch with that goal: 1-4. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Jo Fawell during the 68th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. A collision led to Minehead getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Jo Fawell hit a great ball. Ken Devaney might have been able to make a better finish in the 70th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Spike Robson. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Richie Santos didn't get a good kick on the ball. Paddy Bellamy kicked well hit freekick during the 74th minute of the match. Spike Robson made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Martyn Hayes in the 77th minute of play. 78 minutes into the match, Ephemeral Ghosts's goal looked a bit too open when Ralph Astridge came free, but Romeo Clayton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Wally Speed had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 80th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Wally Speed got free with Romeo Clayton in the 84th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Ken Devaney fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 89th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Spike Robson having to interfere. After 90 played minutes Minehead got a freekick which was hit by Glenn Marsden. Wally Speed struck a weak shot in the 93rd minute. Romeo Clayton didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Minehead. 95 minutes into the match, Ephemeral Ghosts's goalkeeper Romeo Clayton had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Wally Speed. In the 97th minute, Wally Speed got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal.
