Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Coventry United's Johnny Prior started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Cleobury Mortimer's Micheal Gilroy got a good chance for a goal in the 4th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Austin Hopkinson in the 10th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Walter Johnson saved Coventry United from getting behind. Cleobury Mortimer's Peter Nicoll played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Rufus Prutton in the 11th minute of play. Cleobury Mortimer's Austin Hopkinson got a good chance for a goal in the 12th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 14th minute, Micheal Gilroy hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After some fancy dribbling in the 17th minute, Benji Everard managed to get in a good position for a shot. Coventry United's supporters rose to their feet, but Benji Everard was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Peter Nicoll breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 22nd minute, Luke Marsden hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Ivor Coton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 26th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Micheal Gilroy came up free with the goalie in the 27th minute, the Cleobury Mortimer fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Micheal Gilroy couldn't finish the play. Ivor Coton struck a weak shot in the 29th minute. Walter Johnson didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Cleobury Mortimer. Peter Nicoll showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rufus Prutton, who was totally free with the ball in the 31st minute. Peter Nicoll made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Johnny Prior in the 34th minute of play. In the 37th minute Ivor Coton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Walter Johnson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Peter Nicoll took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Johnny Prior, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. In the 42ndth minute of the game Austin Hopkinson who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Coventry United's Walter Johnson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. With his leg Walter Johnson managed to avoid a goal in the 44thth minute, when Cleobury Mortimer's Austin Hopkinson fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Austin Hopkinson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.
Austin Hopkinson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Walter Johnson having to interfere. 57 minutes into the match, Coventry United's goal looked a bit too open when Austin Hopkinson came free, but Walter Johnson reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. The audience was convinced that Austin Hopkinson's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Walter Johnson was relentless in the 59th minute of the game. Micheal Gilroy received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 61st minute. Walter Johnson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Micheal Gilroy sent away a hard shot on goal in the 64th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 65thth minute of the game Austin Hopkinson who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Coventry United's Walter Johnson was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Peter Pitts scored 2-0 in the 66th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Walter Johnson, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Peter Pitts received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 69th minute. Walter Johnson tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 71st minute Austin Hopkinson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Walter Johnson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Peter Pitts took the ball and in the 74 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Walter Johnson. Walter Johnson dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 3-0. The audience thought a goal was coming when Micheal Crayon got free with Peter Nicoll in the 78th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After 79 minutes of play, Coventry United's Nath Price made it 3-1 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Peter Nicoll was left in no man's land by his defense there! Walter Johnson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ivor Coton in the 85th minute of the match. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Austin Hopkinson in the 86th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Walter Johnson saved Coventry United from getting behind. An unexpectedly hard shot by Peter Pitts in the 87th minute of play forced Coventry United's goalkeeper Walter Johnson to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 88th minute of the game. One of Coventry United:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Cleobury Mortimer:s goal. Cleobury Mortimer's Peter Nicoll played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Micheal Crayon in the 95th minute of play. Johnny Prior recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 96th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 98 minutes into the match, Peter Pitts had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Walter Johnson. Coventry United's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Peter Pitts was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 5-1. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. Cleobury Mortimer fully deserved thier win.
