Ely's supporters crossed their fingers, but Kris Renner was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. 15 minutes into the match, Kieran Rothery notched a goal, 0-2, to the right of Brigade's Seth Oates. Seth Oates was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. In the 17th minute, Kris Renner got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. 19 minutes into the match, Brigade's goal looked a bit too open when Kieran Rothery came free, but Seth Oates reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. If Jake Lilley had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 20th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. With his leg Lawrence Howlett managed to avoid a goal in the 22ndth minute, when Brigade's Jake Lilley fired away a shot with a lot of spin towards his right hand side. Kieran Rothery sent away a hard shot on goal in the 25th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. James Butters hit a great freekick 35 minutes into the match. After 37 played minutes Brigade got a freekick which was hit by Zackary Lamb. After having played for 38 minutes, Kieran Rothery managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. After a defensive mix-up in Brigade's zone, Kieran Rothery stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Seth Oates came out of the goal and Kieran Rothery tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Brigade's Seth Oates played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Kris Renner in the 42nd minute of play. Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Jamie Younger to make the kick off. After some careless play in the Ely defense, Jamie Younger kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Lawrence Howlett. The Ely fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Lawrence Howlett should have stopped the shot. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Jake Lilley in the 85th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Lawrence Howlett saved Ely from getting behind. 88 minutes into the match, Jamie Younger had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Lawrence Howlett. Ely's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Jamie Younger was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-3. In the 91st minute Jake Lilley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Lawrence Howlett saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a rather tough play, Ely's Jez Alsford got a free kick in the 91st minute. The Ely players were relieved to hear the final whistle blow to end the match. The away crowd was happy to see their team win after a very tight game.
