Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Kieran Rothery got the match started through his kick off. Ely's Lewis Liddle shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 3rd minute of play. The shot was stopped by Jerome Barber but with some difficulty. If Kris Renner had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 8 minutes into the match, Staveley AFC's goalkeeper Jerome Barber had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Kieran Rothery. Ely's Lawrence Howlett played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by John Allwright in the 13th minute of play. A collision led to Ely getting a freekick after 14 minutes play. Jez Alsford hit a great ball. Lawrence Howlett came out of the goal in the 15th minute to try and stop a shot by Staveley AFC's John Allwright. But to his dismay, John Allwright quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 0-1. Ted Peakman took the ball and in the 19 minute, shot a rapid shot to the right of a surprised Lawrence Howlett. Lawrence Howlett dived to the right, and did manage to get a hand on the shot, but it still went into the right corner making it 0-2. Jerome Barber took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Kieran Rothery, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a defensive mix-up in Ely's zone, Ted Peakman stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Lawrence Howlett came out of the goal and Ted Peakman tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. In the 31stth minute of the game Ted Peakman who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Ely's Lawrence Howlett was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. 34 minutes into the match, Ted Peakman notched a goal, 0-3, to the right of Ely's Lawrence Howlett. Lawrence Howlett was clearly disgusted with the effort of the defense and let the defenders know about it. Kieran Rothery struck a weak shot in the 38th minute. Jerome Barber didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ely. If John Allwright had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Denny Kirkpatrick during the 45th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 45th match minute, Ely was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Denny Kirkpatrick to maneuver through the defense. Ted Peakman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Ely players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Staveley AFC were winning 0-3.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell John Allwright to make the kick off. The Staveley AFC fans' excitement grew in the 52nd match minute when Staveley AFC's Ted Peakman looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-4 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. In the 59thth minute of the game Kieran Rothery who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Staveley AFC's Jerome Barber was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 64th minute, Kris Renner left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Ely fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 1-4. The supporters of Staveley AFC booed when Ely was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 67 match minutes in a wonderful position. Alfie Gould didn't get a good kick on the ball. 76 minutes into the match, Ely's goalkeeper Lawrence Howlett had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Cliff Langley. John Allwright sent away a hard shot on goal in the 83rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If John Allwright had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 88th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Cliff Langley hit a great freekick 94 minutes into the match. The Staveley AFC supporters could be heard counting down the last seconds of the match. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Staveley AFC would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
