Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The sun was shining, the grass was green and the audience cheered when Rowan Brownlow got the match started through his kick off. Jerome Barber took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Hugh Wilkins, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Ted Peakman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brian Key having to interfere. If John Allwright had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 12th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Hugh Wilkins sent away a hard shot on goal in the 14th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 18th minute, Julian Bonham hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. If Rowan Brownlow had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 22nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After a defensive mix-up in Staveley AFC's zone, Rowan Brownlow stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Jerome Barber came out of the goal and Rowan Brownlow tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Jerome Barber showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Rowan Brownlow, who was totally free with the ball in the 26th minute. Hugh Wilkins received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Jerome Barber tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Brian Key was a little too slow when John Allwright got a fine hit on the ball which went right into the goal in the 37th minute. The score was now 1-0. An unexpectedly hard shot by Hugh Wilkins in the 42nd minute of play forced Staveley AFC's goalkeeper Jerome Barber to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. If John Allwright had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 43rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 46 played minutes Formby AFC got a freekick which was hit by Kirk Barker. Ted Peakman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 48th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 1-0 at half-time.

Staveley AFC's John Allwright got a good chance for a goal in the 56th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Brian Key showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John Allwright in the 67th minute of the match. A collision led to Formby AFC getting a freekick after 70 minutes play. Tosh Rutherford hit a great ball. In the 71st minute, Vincent Burrows sent off a long shot on goal, but the shot was nowhere near the goal and Formby AFC's Brian Key didn't even have to move. The supporters of Formby AFC booed when Staveley AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 79 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cliff Langley didn't get a good kick on the ball. Formby AFC's Brian Key played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ted Peakman in the 92nd minute of play. Ted Peakman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 93rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Brian Key having to interfere. Brian Key showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from John Allwright, who was totally free with the ball in the 95th minute. Brian Key showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from John Allwright in the 96th minute of the match. Staveley AFC were really happy, having secured the victory after a very even contest. They thanked the players of Formby AFC for a fine match.
