Staveley
Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000,
Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Jeff Gardner started the match with the kick off in front of an excited audience. The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 4th minute of the game. One of Cove:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Staveley AFC:s goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers John Allwright in the 11th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jerome Darby saved Cove from getting behind. In the 12th minute, Ted Peakman got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. The audience was convinced that John Allwright's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Jerome Darby was relentless in the 13th minute of the game. Jerome Darby came out of the goal in the 15th minute to try and stop a shot by Staveley AFC's Ted Peakman. But to his dismay, Ted Peakman quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 2-0. Staveley AFC's Jerome Barber played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Jeff Gardner in the 18th minute of play. The supporters of Staveley AFC booed when Cove was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 24 match minutes in a wonderful position. Philip Pinder didn't get a good kick on the ball. Jerome Darby made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from John Allwright in the 27th minute of play. Ted Peakman received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 29th minute. Jerome Darby tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 39 minutes into the match, Staveley AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Jeff Gardner came free, but Jerome Barber reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.
The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for John Allwright to strike the kick off in the second half. When Jeff Gardner came up free with the goalie in the 55th minute, the Cove fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Jeff Gardner couldn't finish the play. In the 57thth minute of the game Jeff Gardner who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Staveley AFC's Jerome Barber was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 64th minute, Robin Palmer hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. 67 minutes into the game, Robin Palmer was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Cove's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Staveley AFC the free kick. Robin Palmer kicked well hit freekick during the 68th minute of the match. In the 68th minute of the match Vincent Burrows shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Jerome Darby showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Tyler Broadhead received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 71st minute. Jerome Barber tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. The attack was good, but when John Allwright in the 75th minute was about to shoot he didn't kick quite good enough and the ball went high over goal. Jerome Barber showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jeff Gardner, who was totally free with the ball in the 77th minute. Jerome Darby made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Cliff Langley in the 80th minute of play. If John Allwright had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 82nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Jerome Darby showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from John Allwright, who was totally free with the ball in the 88th minute. Ted Peakman fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 90th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jerome Darby having to interfere. When the match had gone on for 91 minutes, Ted Peakman put it in 3-0 from a short distance just to the right of Jerome Darby. 94 minutes into the game, Julian Bonham was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Staveley AFC's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Cove the free kick. The supporters of Cove booed when Staveley AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 94 match minutes in a wonderful position. Julian Bonham didn't get a good kick on the ball. For all the effort they put into the match, the Cove players left disappointed. They had fought hard, but couldn't break down the home team's defense. The match ended in a win for Staveley AFC.
