Matty Letherens short, quick shot in the 14thth minute got Ozzy Coulson to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. In the 18th minute, Lucas Upson hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Ozzy Coulson made an important save on a dangerous shot by Jake Ainge in the 26th minute. Will Larham hit a great freekick 30 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 35th minute, Emilio Laurin managed to get in a good position for a shot. OJ Rovers's supporters rose to their feet, but Emilio Laurin was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Geoff Furlong breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 36th minute, Gavin Bass hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Hexham Town F.C. made a substitution. Vic Holden replaced Graeme Moyle. Stewart Monkhouse hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. The away team players looked dejected as the walked off the pitch at half time. They had fought hard, but were still losing 1-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Matty Letheren to make the kick off. The supporters of Hexham Town F.C. booed when OJ Rovers was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 51 match minutes in a wonderful position. Darren Dewhirst didn't get a good kick on the ball. The throw-in from Gavin Bass in the 56th minute of the game was unfortunally taken care of by Hexham Town F.C.'s Jake Ainge. After 60 minutes of play OJ Rovers's Stewart Monkhouse was too eager in his attempt to stop his opponent and brought him down. With that he got his second yellow card and was ordered off the ground. After 60 played minutes OJ Rovers got a freekick which was hit by Stewart Monkhouse. When Philip Cornish fell near the penalty area in the 63rd minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Hexham Town F.C.'s protests and gave Philip Cornish a yellow card for diving instead. Philip Cornish kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. The audience thought a goal was coming when Emilio Laurin got free with Geoff Furlong in the 64th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. If Emilio Laurin had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 66th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. In the 68th match minute, OJ Rovers was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Robert Corby to maneuver through the defense. With a little luck, Hexham Town F.C.'s Geoff Furlong got control of the ball when Emilio Laurin tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jake Ainge sent away a hard shot on goal in the 90th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 92 minutes into the game, Hexham Town F.C.'s Matty Letheren nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Ozzy Coulson made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 3-0. Hexham Town F.C.'s fans were exulted and cheered after their team won in a match that could easily have gone the other way.
