In the 23rd minute, one of sunderland afc:s players had the ball in front of the goal but got pushed and fell. The referee felt it was an obvious case and blew a penalty for sunderland afc. In the 24th minute there was a penalty for Running Ducks. Marcus Saxton stepped forward and shot the ball to the right of a diving Chaz Downs. 0-1. In the 27th match minute, Running Ducks was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Brandon Stubbs to maneuver through the defense. Wes Meade showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Jake Lambert, who was totally free with the ball in the 27th minute. If Ralf Hirst had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 32nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The audience thought a goal was coming when Matthew Stamp got free with Wes Meade in the 39th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Seb Lynam's late challenge caught a sunderland afc's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After the first half Running Ducks were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

The wind increased when Jake Lambert made the kick off in the second half. Ray Dudgeon sent away a hard shot on goal in the 55th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Brandon Stubbs during the 59th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. Matthew Stamp might have been able to make a better finish in the 60th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Wes Meade. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. If Ralf Hirst had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 95th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. In the 96th minute, Bruce Llyod hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee blew his whistle, and the match came to a close. The players exchanged shirts and headed down the tunnel. The sunderland afc fans cheered their team off the field, for while Running Ducks had put up a good fight, they were unable to come out of the game with any points to show for their effort.
