Al Prutton made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-3. Stocksbridge FC's Verne Brennan got a good chance for a goal in the 29th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 32nd minute Cliff Paley shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Al Prutton saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Verne Brennan might have been able to make a better finish in the 35th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Al Prutton. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Verne Brennan ran back to his position shaking his head. After 36 minutes of play, Stocksbridge FC's Verne Brennan made it 0-4 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Al Prutton was left in no man's land by his defense there! When Verne Brennan came up free with the goalie in the 41st minute, the Stocksbridge FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Verne Brennan couldn't finish the play. Cliff Paley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 43rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 49thth minute of the game Cliff Paley who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but power rangers's Al Prutton was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Luck had favoured the away team in the first, and they walked off with a 0-4 lead.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Lennie Woodman stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. In the 54th minute, Christopher Courtney hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Al Prutton was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 55th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Guy Rider. John-Paul Anson hit a great freekick 59 minutes into the match. When Cliff Paley came up free with the goalie in the 60th minute, the Stocksbridge FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Cliff Paley couldn't finish the play. John-Paul Anson's late challenge caught a Stocksbridge FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. After 71 played minutes power rangers got a freekick which was hit by John-Paul Anson. 72 minutes in the game, Cliff Paley fired away an excellent shot, which passed to the side of the right post without Al Prutton having to interfere. The supporters of power rangers booed when Stocksbridge FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 74 match minutes in a wonderful position. Cliff Graydon didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 77th minute, Verne Brennan fired away a shot on goal. He put a little to much spin on the ball and sent it just wide of the right post. After some careless play in the power rangers defense, Verne Brennan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Al Prutton. The power rangers fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Al Prutton should have stopped the shot. In the 82nd minute the ball was on its way in behind power rangers's goalkeeper Al Prutton, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 84th minute, Stocksbridge FC's Cliff Paley dribbled the ball into the box and hit a shot with the outside of his foot, sending the keeper the wrong way. 0-6. After a defensive mix-up in power rangers's zone, Verne Brennan stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Al Prutton came out of the goal and Verne Brennan tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Cliff Paley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 96th minute. Al Prutton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere.
