The long shot by Allan Aldridge in the 21st minute really tested Ivan Bayford's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Verne Burbeary in the 25th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Jude Sykes saved Stocksbridge FC from getting behind. Ross Newton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 26th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Jude Sykes having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 30th minute, Cliff Paley managed to get in a good position for a shot. Stocksbridge FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Cliff Paley was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Stocksbridge FC's Jude Sykes played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Ross Newton in the 62nd minute of play. Cliff Paley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 65th minute. Ivan Bayford tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. A collision led to Stocksbridge FC getting a freekick after 78 minutes play. Gaz Draper hit a great ball. Stocksbridge FC's Jude Sykes proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 80th minute of the match, managed to save Stocksbridge FC from getting a goal against them. If Ross Newton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 81st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After 83 played minutes Stocksbridge FC got a freekick which was hit by Gaz Draper. 88 minutes into the match, Verne Burbeary had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Jude Sykes. Stocksbridge FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Verne Burbeary was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2.
