In the 5thth minute of the game Giles Oliver who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but misfits fc's Anthony Cain was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Anthony Cain showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Eric Clegg in the 7th minute of the match. Anthony Cain made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Giles Oliver in the 10th minute of play. Tony Webster was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 17th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Christopher Shilton. Anthony Cain took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Giles Oliver, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 23 minutes into the game, Byfleet Rangers's Trev Beesley nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Anthony Cain made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. Cliff Homes charged in rather forcefully in the 31st minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Cliff Homes the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. After a rather tough play, Byfleet Rangers's Cliff Homes got a free kick in the 31st minute. Verne Tolley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Byfleet Rangers's Tony Webster played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Bruce Beadle in the 33rd minute of play. Tony Webster was in exellent shape and made a fantastic save when he, in the 36th minute of the match, managed to get hold of the ball after a long shot from Christopher Shilton. 44 minutes into the match, misfits fc's Malcolm Nottingham sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Tony Webster narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Christopher Shilton took a chance and fired a shot far from the goal in the 47th minute, but it turned out to be a dangerous situation for Tony Webster. Byfleet Rangers's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line.
Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Bruce Beadle to make the kick off. An unexpectedly hard shot by Giles Oliver in the 55th minute of play forced misfits fc's goalkeeper Anthony Cain to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. After a defensive mix-up in Byfleet Rangers's zone, Malcolm Nottingham stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Tony Webster came out of the goal and Malcolm Nottingham tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After a rather tough play, Byfleet Rangers's Jon Backhouse got a free kick in the 69th minute. Michael Blakewell struck a weak shot in the 70th minute. Tony Webster didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for misfits fc. Ruben Haines hit a great freekick 71 minutes into the match. Eric Clegg hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Bruce Beadle in the 73rd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Tony Webster prevented the ball from getting in the gole. If Malcolm Nottingham had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 83rd minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. Anthony Cain took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Eric Clegg, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Tony Webster showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from John Fitzsymon, who was totally free with the ball in the 85th minute. If Malcolm Nottingham had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 89th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Verne Tolley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 91st minute. Tony Webster tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Glyn Carlick sent away a hard shot on goal in the 93rd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. 97 minutes into the match, misfits fc's goalkeeper Anthony Cain had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Glyn Carlick. Chants of Byfleet Rangers echoed around the stadium as the match drew to a close. Supporters and players were both delighted with the win, as misfits fc had held the ball for most of the match.
