Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Nick Miller started the match with the kick off. A collision led to Taunton getting a freekick after 9 minutes play. Nick Miller hit a great ball. Joe Dennison showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Nick Miller in the 10th minute of the match. When Taunton's Adam Turner in the 12th minute got a chance for a shot 12th didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Barnsley's goalie prevented a goal. After 13 minutes Barnsley's defender was forced to head the ball over the line for a corner. It was Niall Abbott who took care of the corner kick. Niall Abbott made a great header on Taunton's corner, it was just that Barnsley's Joe Dennison managed to reach the ball for a save. After some careless play in the Barnsley defense, Nick Miller kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Joe Dennison. The Barnsley fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Joe Dennison should have stopped the shot. Barnsley's Nigel Mason shoveled away a really nice long shot in the 27th minute of play. The shot was stopped by Kristian Carter but with some difficulty. Dominic Bradley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 30th minute. Kristian Carter tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 44th minute Guy Rayner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kristian Carter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Taunton's zone, Dominic Bradley stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Kristian Carter came out of the goal and Dominic Bradley tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Dominic Bradley's shot when he came free in front of the goal in the 48thth minute, Kristian Carter skillfully showed off with a save to what seemed to be an obvious goal. After the first half Taunton were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.
The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Guy Rayner stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Adam Turners short, quick shot in the 54thth minute got Joe Dennison to make great effort and bar the ball away from getting in. Kristian Carter showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dominic Bradley, who was totally free with the ball in the 60th minute. In the 61st minute Guy Rayner shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Kristian Carter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Adam Turner could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 62nd minute of the match, but Joe Dennison made a huge save. Dale Atkins kicked well hit freekick during the 63rd minute of the match. If Nick Miller had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 68th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After having played for 70 minutes, Nick Miller managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Taunton's supporters crossed their fingers, but Nick Miller was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Barnsley's Vern Tisdale suffered a concussion after 73 minutes and had to leave the field. In the 74th minute, Ralph Law hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Nick Miller received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 80th minute. Joe Dennison tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Dale Atkins kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. The audience was convinced that Nick Miller's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Joe Dennison was relentless in the 84th minute of the game. Dominic Bradley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 96th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The Barnsley supporters were disappointed that their team didn't take anything from the match, despite matching Taunton's performance. The match ended with a win for Taunton.
