Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Greenwood fc's Calvin Purvis started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. The audience thought a goal was coming when Brett Reynolds got free with Wally Dickner in the 3rd minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. Eric Varley received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 10th minute. Tyler Le Saux tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After some fancy dribbling in the 13th minute, Lawrence Sutton managed to get in a good position for a shot. Stocksbridge FC's supporters rose to their feet, but Lawrence Sutton was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Wally Dickner breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. In the 19th minute Lawrence Sutton shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Wally Dickner saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. After a defensive mix-up in Greenwood fc's zone, Brett Reynolds stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Wally Dickner came out of the goal and Brett Reynolds tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Brett Reynolds could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 22nd minute of the match, but Wally Dickner made a huge save. Tyler Le Saux made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Eric Varley in the 24th minute of play. Tyler Le Saux didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Eric Varley went, in the 27th minute, to the upper right corner, 0-1 was the resulting score. Tyler Le Saux showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Eric Varley, who was totally free with the ball in the 32nd minute. An unexpectedly hard shot by Eric Varley in the 32nd minute of play forced Stocksbridge FC's goalkeeper Tyler Le Saux to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 38th minute of the match, Brett Reynolds got a very nice opportunity to score, but Wally Dickner was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Lawrence Sutton was really disappointed when he shot the ball just outside the right post instead of scoring a goal in the 40th minute. Stocksbridge FC's manager could be seen on the sidelines shaking his head and muttering to himself as his team had just wasted another chance. They errupted in celebration when the whistle blew, knowing Greenwood fc would go home with victory in their luggage after a match that easily could have ended differently.
