Kirk Tomlin sent away a hard shot on goal in the 9th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Phillip Leadbeater fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 11th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Marc Harkness having to interfere. After some careless play in the Hardly Athletic defense, Louis Paine kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Marc Harkness. The Hardly Athletic fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Marc Harkness should have stopped the shot. In the 19th minute Marty Graves shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Marc Harkness saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. The supporters of Hardly Athletic booed when rommiley spartans was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Phillip Leadbeater didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 23rd minute, Phillip Leadbeater hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Kirk Tomlin in the 25th minute of play forced rommiley spartans's goalkeeper Rod May to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. When Louis Paine fell near the penalty area in the 26th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored rommiley spartans's protests and gave Louis Paine a yellow card for diving instead. Louis Paine kicked well hit freekick during the 26th minute of the match. Kirk Tomlin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 28th minute. Rod May tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 30th minute, Kirk Tomlin ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Rod May was frozen by the shot and now it was 1-1. Rod May showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Ashley Dobson in the 33rd minute of the match. Ashley Dobson's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Rod May read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 36th minute of play. Ashley Dobson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 37th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Ashley Dobson recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 44th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. Ashley Dobson received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 47th minute. Rod May tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Phillip Leadbeater stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. Kirk Tomlin received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 53rd minute. Rod May tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Kirk Tomlin recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 54th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. In the 58th minute the ball was on its way in behind rommiley spartans's goalkeeper Rod May, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. In the 60th minute Ashley Dobson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rod May saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Marty Graves struck a weak shot in the 63rd minute. Marc Harkness didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for rommiley spartans. After some fancy dribbling in the 65th minute, Phillip Leadbeater managed to get in a good position for a shot. rommiley spartans's supporters rose to their feet, but Phillip Leadbeater was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Marc Harkness breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. 68 minutes into the match, Kirk Tomlin had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Rod May. rommiley spartans's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Kirk Tomlin was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Marc Harkness showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Louis Paine, who was totally free with the ball in the 75th minute. 77 minutes had been played when some careless play by Hardly Athletic's defense caused the ball to cross the line for a corner. Leon Bullard was slow to take the kick. During this time rommiley spartans's players had a chance to rest. Leon Bullard made a great header on rommiley spartans's corner, it was just that Hardly Athletic's Marc Harkness managed to reach the ball for a save. With a little luck, rommiley spartans's Rod May got control of the ball when Kirk Tomlin tried to sneak it across the goal line. After 86 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for rommiley spartans! Kirk Tomlin succeeded to score despite a near miss that spronge from right pole into the goal to 1-4 in the 91st playminute. Hardly Athletic's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
