A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. Teddy Sheene charged in rather forcefully in the 7th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Teddy Sheene the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. In the 7th minute, Teddy Sheene hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. After a defensive mix-up in Middlesbrough F.C's zone, Zack Gibson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Steve Townsley came out of the goal and Zack Gibson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Stan Morrison took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Teddy Sheene, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. Middlesbrough F.C's Steve Townsley proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 14th minute of the match, managed to save Middlesbrough F.C from getting a goal against them. Middlesbrough F.C's Teddy Sheene got a good chance for a goal in the 19th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. In the 22nd minute Teddy Sheene shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Stan Morrison saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. In the 27th minute, Rupert Morrell hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The supporters of Ilford Town Fc booed when Middlesbrough F.C was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 32 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jude Stayton didn't get a good kick on the ball. The long shot by Phil Mowlem in the 33rd minute really tested Steve Townsley's skills. The ball was on its way into the goal to the left of him when he managed to stretch himself and save the shot and avoid a goal. Teddy Sheene fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 35th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Stan Morrison having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Teddy Sheene in the 38th minute of play forced Ilford Town Fc's goalkeeper Stan Morrison to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Zack Gibson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rueben Young struck a weak shot in the 47th minute. Steve Townsley didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Ilford Town Fc. After a very even first half the match was still tied. The players went to their respective dressing rooms to discuss the tactics for the second half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Rueben Young was the one to do the kick off. In the 50th match minute, Middlesbrough F.C was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Joseph Markham to maneuver through the defense. 56 minutes into the match, Ilford Town Fc's goal looked a bit too open when Teddy Sheene came free, but Stan Morrison reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Stan Morrison made a fantastic save in the 62nd minute, when Crispin Weston sent off a good shot on target. A collision led to Middlesbrough F.C getting a freekick after 63 minutes play. Dean Taggart hit a great ball. Steve Townsley showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Zack Gibson in the 71st minute of the match. Johnathon Gill hit a great freekick 72 minutes into the match. After some fancy dribbling in the 74th minute, Teddy Sheene managed to get in a good position for a shot. Middlesbrough F.C's supporters rose to their feet, but Teddy Sheene was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Stan Morrison breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Zack Gibson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 76th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. Ilford Town Fc's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Middlesbrough F.C the free kick. 85 minutes into the match, Crispin Weston had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Stan Morrison. Ilford Town Fc's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Crispin Weston was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. Dean Taggart could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 94th minute of the match, but Stan Morrison made a huge save. Crispin Weston struck a weak shot in the 95th minute. Stan Morrison didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Middlesbrough F.C. Middlesbrough F.C's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
