The referee blew the whistle for a penalty in the 9th minute of the game. One of Zanzibar FC:s players had nearly got his shirt torn off by an opponent while getting free in front of Harold Hill:s goal. The referee gave Harold Hill a penalty, 11 minutes into the game. The penalty shot was made by Derek Briant, who made a well placed shot into the net to the right of Zanzibar FC's Tod Wilmott. 1-0. After a rather tough play, Harold Hill's Will Davies got a free kick in the 16th minute. When Conal Brooke fell near the penalty area in the 19th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Harold Hill's protests and gave Conal Brooke a yellow card for diving instead. A collision led to Harold Hill getting a freekick after 19 minutes play. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Conal Brooke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 27th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Billy Dexter took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Philip Welch, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After 31 played minutes Zanzibar FC got a freekick which was hit by Tom Owen. In the 36th minute Max Denham shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Billy Dexter saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Billy Dexter made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Philip Welch in the 37th minute of play. Philip Welch sent away a hard shot on goal in the 40th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 1-0.

The players of the away team seemed most concentrated when Ashley Scorfield stepped up to make the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Zanzibar FC's Matt Poynton got a free kick in the 52nd minute. Philip Welch kicked well hit freekick during the 62nd minute of the match. 66 minutes into the game, Brendon Osborn was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Harold Hill's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Zanzibar FC the free kick. Billy Dexter didn't succeed in stopping the ball in the 92nd minute, which inside left pole to 2-1. 96 minutes into the game, Philip Welch recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Billy Dexter. Philip Welch showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 2-2. Jeers came from both ends of the stadium when the final whistle went. Neither team had looked impressive and the draw seeemd a fair result.
