Grange-over-Sands City's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Vance Rogers was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-2. After a defensive mix-up in Grange-over-Sands City's zone, Vance Rogers stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Kev Davies came out of the goal and Vance Rogers tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 25 minutes, Greg Crossley managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Manchester City's supporters crossed their fingers, but Greg Crossley was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Gez Searle hit a great freekick 27 minutes into the match. Leo Houghton fired away a difficult shot at goal in the 30th minute. He almost succeeded, but the ball went over. It was a very nice shot. Greg Crossley sent away a hard shot on goal in the 33rd minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. The audience was convinced that Richard Fleming's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Kev Davies was relentless in the 38th minute of the game. Disappointed in the 0-3 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.
