Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Dark clouds were building up when the players entered the field. None of the them looked very eager to play. Stefan Owen started the match with the kick off. After a defensive mix-up in Aldershot's zone, Stefan Owen stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Gerry Cadwallader came out of the goal and Stefan Owen tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Kurt Sweeney received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 7th minute. Gerry Cadwallader tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 10 minutes into the match, Aldershot's goal looked a bit too open when Kurt Sweeney came free, but Gerry Cadwallader reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Matthew Bonds received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 12th minute. Tyler Cavanagh tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. 16 minutes into the match, Reading's goalkeeper Tyler Cavanagh had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Noel Chilton. Matthew Bonds sent away a hard shot on goal in the 20th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. In the 22nd minute Stefan Owen shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Gerry Cadwallader saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Tyler Cavanagh came out of the goal in the 25th minute to try and stop a shot by Aldershot's Noel Chilton. But to his dismay, Noel Chilton quickly shot the ball in between his legs and into the goal making it 1-0. Ash Wall kicked well hit freekick during the 28th minute of the match. After 30 minutes, Matthew Bonds mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Aldershot and the Reading players grew even worse after the yellow card. Harry Leather kicked well hit freekick during the 33rd minute of the match. In the 35th minute, Noel Chilton ran past the defenders and hit a shot which went straight ahead into goal. Tyler Cavanagh was frozen by the shot and now it was 2-0. 47 minutes into the match, Aldershot's goal looked a bit too open when Stefan Owen came free, but Gerry Cadwallader reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line.

The wind increased when Matthew Bonds made the kick off in the second half. Tyler Cavanagh stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Matthew Bonds's shot from short distance in the 52nd minute. After some careless play in the Reading defense, Matthew Bonds kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Tyler Cavanagh. The Reading fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Tyler Cavanagh should have stopped the shot. Kurt Sweeney might have been able to make a better finish in the 59th minute when he tried to place a hard shot over Gerry Cadwallader. Instead the ball went over the crossbar and out. Kurt Sweeney ran back to his position shaking his head. Aldershot's Matthew Bonds got his second yellow card of the match in the 61st minute. The referee ordered Matthew Bonds off the ground. In the 62nd minute, Matthew Bonds hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Kurt Sweeney's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Gerry Cadwallader read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 66th minute of play. When Junior Carsley fell near the penalty area in the 67th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Aldershot's protests and gave Junior Carsley a yellow card for diving instead. In the 67th match minute, Aldershot was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Junior Carsley to maneuver through the defense. Reading's Kurt Sweeney got a good chance for a goal in the 69th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. Kurt Sweeney came free with the goalkeeper in the 72nd minute of the match, and shot straight on target. The shot was a little too simple and Gerry Cadwallader could save by the left post. The crowd rose to their feet as Stefan Owen kicked a wonderful shot that went in to the left of a diving Gerry Cadwallader. That made the score 3-2 in the 76 minute of play. A collision led to Aldershot getting a freekick after 79 minutes play. Noel Chilton hit a great ball. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Noel Chilton in the 84th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Tyler Cavanagh saved Reading from getting behind. Vic Almond recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 88th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 94 minutes into the match, Noel Chilton had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Tyler Cavanagh. Reading's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Noel Chilton was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 4-2. Reading's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
