Shawn Brookes kicked well hit freekick during the 43rd minute of the match. After a defensive mix-up in Salford FC's zone, John Paul Leeson stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rueben Hanson came out of the goal and John Paul Leeson tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 2-0.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell John Paul Leeson to make the kick off. When Shawn Brookes came up free with the goalie in the 53rd minute, the Salford FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Shawn Brookes couldn't finish the play. The audience thought a goal was coming when Archie Gilchrist got free with Rueben Hanson in the 57th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. A collision led to Salford FC getting a freekick after 59 minutes play. Mark Jones hit a great ball. The referee gave Archie Gilchrist a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. Will Goodman sent away a hard shot on goal in the 68th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 69 minutes into the match, Shawn Brookes notched a goal, 3-0, to the right of Victoria United's Rowan Cross. Salford FC's Rueben Hanson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 85th minute of the match, managed to save Salford FC from getting a goal against them. In the 90th minute Shawn Brookes shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rowan Cross saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
