Robert Brookman's late challenge caught a Kenton's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Robert Brookman helped the player get up and apologised. The supporters of Kenton booed when Wakefield Vikings was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 25 match minutes in a wonderful position. Robert Brookman didn't get a good kick on the ball. Wakefield Vikings's Jez Dyson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Mick Sheppard in the 26th minute of play. 29 minutes into the match, Robert Brookman had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Russell Robinson. Kenton's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Robert Brookman was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 2-0. Tom Crtichell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 33rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Russell Robinson having to interfere. After a rather tough play, Kenton's Tristan Hook got a free kick in the 36th minute. A collision led to Kenton getting a freekick after 41 minutes play. Harry Milner hit a great ball. Tom Crtichell fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 45th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Russell Robinson having to interfere. The home fans were very happy to see their team leading 2-0 at half-time.

The wind increased when Donald Walters made the kick off in the second half. In the 52nd minute Tom Crtichell shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Russell Robinson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line.
