In the 3rd minute, Glyn Oliver got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. In the 5th minute Glyn Oliver shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Russell Robinson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When Barry Nailor came up free with the goalie in the 12th minute, the Horsham fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Barry Nailor couldn't finish the play. Mick Sheppard's late challenge caught a Horsham's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Mick Sheppard helped the player get up and apologised. After having played for 17 minutes, Mick Sheppard managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kenton's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mick Sheppard was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. In the 20th minute, Glyn Oliver left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Horsham fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. Russell Robinson took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Barry Nailor, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. After a rather tough play, Kenton's Mick Sheppard got a free kick in the 26th minute. Russell Robinson didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Glyn Oliver went, in the 31st minute, to the upper right corner, 0-3 was the resulting score. Barry Nailor fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 36th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Russell Robinson having to interfere. After 39 played minutes, Horsham's Marcus Coton shot from a long distance, and at first it looked like the ball was going into the goal, but the goalkeeper Russell Robinson came through and got his fingers on the ball before it flew over the goal line. He then quickly gripped the ball tighter before the forwards in Horsham reached it. Glyn Oliver fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 41st minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Russell Robinson having to interfere. When Barry Nailor came up free with the goalie in the 43rd minute, the Horsham fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Barry Nailor couldn't finish the play. 43 minutes into the match, Glyn Oliver had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Russell Robinson. Kenton's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Glyn Oliver was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-4. Russell Robinson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Barry Nailor in the 48th minute of the match. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 0-4.

In the 51st match minute, Horsham was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Rich Bailey to maneuver through the defense. Barry Nailor sent away a hard shot on goal in the 57th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. With a little luck, Kenton's Russell Robinson got control of the ball when Barry Nailor tried to sneak it across the goal line. Russell Robinson showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Glyn Oliver, who was totally free with the ball in the 66th minute. Russell Robinson stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Glyn Oliver's shot from short distance in the 75th minute. 80 minutes into the game, Barry Nailor was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Horsham's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Kenton the free kick. Barry Nailor kicked well hit freekick during the 80th minute of the match. Thanks to some nice moves Barry Nailor could shoot a difficult shot in the 82nd minute, which Russell Robinson however easily saved by the left post. After having played for 87 minutes, Mick Sheppard managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Kenton's supporters crossed their fingers, but Mick Sheppard was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Kenton's Russell Robinson proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 93rd minute of the match, managed to save Kenton from getting a goal against them. Russell Robinson made a fantastic save in the 95th minute, when Barry Nailor sent off a good shot on target. When Giles Slator fell near the penalty area in the 96th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Kenton's protests and gave Giles Slator a yellow card for diving instead. When the final whistle sounded Horsham left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Kenton.
