Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) The field was rather wet after several days of rain when Lee Seagrave took the kick off in the first half of the match. Niall Marenghi stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Gerry Brooke's shot from short distance in the 7th minute. 14 minutes into the match, Perton FC's Larry Cahill sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Niall Marenghi narrowly saved just below the crossbar. After 18 played minutes Perton FC got a freekick which was hit by Damion Renton. After recieving a nice pass, Formby's Dale Fletcher tried to score from far away in the 19th minute, but the ball went over the crossbar. Gerry Brooke fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 22nd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Niall Marenghi having to interfere. Nathan Chilton stood for a superb save when he managed to get hold of Reg Rocastle's shot from short distance in the 27th minute. After a rather tough play, Perton FC's Damion Renton got a free kick in the 32nd minute. 33 minutes into the match, Dale Fletcher sent off a long shot that looked like it was going straight into the goal, but because Nathan Chilton threw himself in his full length he managed to grip the ball by the left post, and there was no goal for Dale Fletcher this time. If Lee Seagrave had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 42 minutes into the match, Perton FC's goal looked a bit too open when Lee Seagrave came free, but Nathan Chilton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Gerry Brooke sent away a hard shot on goal in the 45th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Larry Cahill had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 47th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. After the first half the score was level. The break gave the players a chance to catch their breath, whilst the managers went over the tactics with them again.

The wind increased when Larry Cahill made the kick off in the second half. In the 52ndth minute of the game Larry Cahill who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Formby's Niall Marenghi was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. After having played for 56 minutes, Reg Rocastle managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Formby's supporters crossed their fingers, but Reg Rocastle was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Reg Rocastle fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 60th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Nathan Chilton having to interfere. After 65 minutes, Noel Lane mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Perton FC and the Formby players grew even worse after the yellow card. After a rather tough play, Perton FC's Noel Lane got a free kick in the 65th minute. Dale Fletcher's shot from long distance was a real pearl which went to the right and just passed Nathan Chilton - 1-0 was put on the score board in the 66th minute. Formby's Niall Marenghi proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 69th minute of the match, managed to save Formby from getting a goal against them. With a little luck, Formby's Niall Marenghi got control of the ball when Gerry Brooke tried to sneak it across the goal line. 75 minutes into the match, Perton FC's goal looked a bit too open when Reg Rocastle came free, but Nathan Chilton reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Larry Cahill recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 95th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal.
