After 18 minutes, Gareth Ellerton mouthed his way into the referee's book. The tension between the Bath and the Sunderland players grew even worse after the yellow card. Gareth Ellerton kicked well hit freekick during the 19th minute of the match. In the 19th minute of the match Martyn Hogg shot from a long distance. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Blair Hoult in the 29th minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Jerome Botham prevented the ball from getting in the gole. Jerome Botham showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Blair Hoult in the 33rd minute of the match. In the 35th minute, Blair Hoult got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Barry Armitage scored 0-1 in the 36th match minute with a shot that went into the goal to the right of Jerome Botham, who was just a little too slow in reacting to the shot. Blair Hoult sent away a hard shot on goal in the 44th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. The supporters of Sunderland booed when Bath was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 45 match minutes in a wonderful position. Gareth Ellerton didn't get a good kick on the ball. After the first half Sunderland were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Blair Hoult in the 55thth minute had a little luck and got a chance for a shot in front of the goal. Without hesitation aimed to the right of Jerome Botham, who managed to lunge to the right direction and made a save. When the final whistle sounded Sunderland left the ground with the victory after a much better performance than Bath.
