In the 8thth minute of the game Glen Whitford who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Middleton AFC's Verne Foley was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. Warren Warburton fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 10th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Verne Foley having to interfere. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Warren Warburton in the 15th managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Verne Foley saved Middleton AFC from getting behind. After some fancy dribbling in the 20th minute, Andrew McGovern managed to get in a good position for a shot. Middleton AFC's supporters rose to their feet, but Andrew McGovern was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Laurence Ottaway breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Glen Whitford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 23rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Verne Foley having to interfere. If Glen Whitford had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 30 minutes into the match, Warren Warburton had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Verne Foley. Middleton AFC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Warren Warburton was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 0-1. The Farnworth AFC fans' excitement grew in the 34th match minute when Farnworth AFC's Glen Whitford looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 0-2 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. 38 minutes into the match, Farnworth AFC's Warren Warburton sent off a blazing shot straight on target, a shot that Verne Foley narrowly saved just below the crossbar. Glen Whitford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 40th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Verne Foley having to interfere. If Warren Warburton had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 41st minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. The supporters of Farnworth AFC booed when Middleton AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 43 match minutes in a wonderful position. Al Furniss didn't get a good kick on the ball. 44 minutes into the match, Farnworth AFC's Glen Sawbridge broke free and took a long shot that unfortunately flew wide. A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. After some careless play in the Farnworth AFC defense, Matty Corrigan kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Laurence Ottaway. The Farnworth AFC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Laurence Ottaway should have stopped the shot. The crowd was extremely unhappy with the home team's performance in the first half. They were losing 1-2.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Andrew McGovern was the one to do the kick off. Glen Whitford fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 53rd minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Verne Foley having to interfere. In the 58th match minute, Farnworth AFC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Ted Sadler to maneuver through the defense. After 60 minutes of play, Middleton AFC's Andrew McGovern made it 2-2 when he simply outclassed the defender marking him and hit a curling shot into the right side of the net. Laurence Ottaway was left in no man's land by his defense there! In the 67thth minute of the game Glen Whitford who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Middleton AFC's Verne Foley was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. An unexpectedly hard shot by Ivan Oates in the 69th minute of play forced Middleton AFC's goalkeeper Verne Foley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Warren Warburton who was well placed in front of the goal fired away a dangerous shot that in the 73rdth minute tested the skills of Verne Foley when he managed to save the team from getting behind. After a rather tough play, Farnworth AFC's Pete Worth got a free kick in the 76th minute. When Matty Corrigan came up free with the goalie in the 77th minute, the Middleton AFC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Matty Corrigan couldn't finish the play. Warren Warburton sent away a hard shot on goal in the 82nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Warren Warburton spun around in front of the goal 92 minutes in the game, and got away a shot that, to his disappointment, went to the left of Middleton AFC's goal. Warren Warburton received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 94th minute. Verne Foley tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Verne Foley made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Glen Whitford in the 98th minute of play. Farnworth AFC were unable to convert their possession into goals, allowing Middleton AFC to leave the ground with a draw.
