With 22 minutes on the clock, Joey Drake commited a dangerous tackle. The referee had no choice but to show him the red card. After 22 minutes of play, the referee blew the whistle. It was a penalty for northwich! Casey Cotterill had in the 24thth minute some difficulties stopping Lenny Owen's well aimed penalty as it nearly passed him on his left side, but he still managed to hold the ball. 24 minutes into the game, Brompton FC's Lenny Owen nearly tore a hole in the net with a booming shot. Casey Cotterill made a valiant effort, but he could not reach the ball in time, 0-1. The audience thought a goal was coming when Bob Deighton got free with Warren Kent in the 27th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. After having played for 30 minutes, Len Carey managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. northwich's supporters crossed their fingers, but Len Carey was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. Len Carey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 32nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. If Len Carey had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 36th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. The supporters of northwich booed when Brompton FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 40 match minutes in a wonderful position. Denny Mallaby didn't get a good kick on the ball. Denzil Crocker hit a great freekick 45 minutes into the match. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-1 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Bob Deighton recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 53rd minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. The northwich fans' excitement grew in the 56th match minute when northwich's Len Carey looked to have a clear shot with the ball near the goal. The shot wasn't hard, but the ball still rolled over the goal line to make it 1-1 before the goalkeeper had a chance to intervene. After a defensive mix-up in Brompton FC's zone, Len Carey stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Warren Kent came out of the goal and Len Carey tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Len Carey sent away a hard shot on goal in the 67th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. After having played for 69 minutes, Felix Fenton managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. When the match had gone on for 86 minutes, Len Carey put it in 2-1 from a short distance just to the right of Warren Kent. Warren Kent took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Len Carey, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. An unexpectedly hard shot by Vinnie Blythe in the 97th minute of play forced northwich's goalkeeper Casey Cotterill to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. There were very few away supporters still in the ground by the end of the match. Most of them had left early, disgusted by the way their team had been torn apart. northwich fully deserved thier win.
