Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Fletching AFC's Denis Fawcett started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 3rd minute Kris Nicholson shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Vic Johnston saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. When the match clock showed 8 minutes, the score became 0-1 when Pete McDermot sped through Fletching AFC's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Vic Johnston. Francis Mabbutt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 14th minute. Ritchie Spann tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After having played for 17 minutes, Pete McDermot managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Boston Red Sox's supporters crossed their fingers, but Pete McDermot was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. A hard shot by Jo Watts from long distance, 20 minutes into the match, got Ritchie Spann's attention. Through a fast twist with his body, he could stop the ball from going in on his right side. The supporters of Boston Red Sox booed when Fletching AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 22 match minutes in a wonderful position. Jermaine Spears didn't get a good kick on the ball. Kev Sykes kicked well hit freekick during the 27th minute of the match. In the 29th minute, Kris Nicholson left the goalkeeper for dead before tapping the ball into the right side of the net. The Boston Red Sox fans were clearly happy with the effort and the scoreboard reflected the new score: 0-2. After a rather tough play, Boston Red Sox's Chris Blowman got a free kick in the 32nd minute. Denis Fawcett struck a weak shot in the 39th minute. Ritchie Spann didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Fletching AFC. Disappointed in the 0-2 score, the home team went to the dressing room to adjust tactics for the second half.

Francis Mabbutt received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 51st minute. Ritchie Spann tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. In the 53rdth minute of the game Francis Mabbutt who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Boston Red Sox's Ritchie Spann was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. If Francis Mabbutt had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 57th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. 60 minutes into the game, Kris Nicholson was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Boston Red Sox's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Fletching AFC the free kick. After 60 played minutes Boston Red Sox got a freekick which was hit by Kris Nicholson. Boston Red Sox's Ritchie Spann played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Denis Fawcett in the 74th minute of play. Denis Fawcett sent away a hard shot on goal in the 78th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. Ritchie Spann didn't have a chance when a screaming shot from Francis Mabbutt went, in the 78th minute, to the upper right corner, 1-2 was the resulting score. In the 81st minute Francis Mabbutt shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ritchie Spann saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. 84 minutes into the match, Fletching AFC's goal looked a bit too open when Kris Nicholson came free, but Vic Johnston reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Ritchie Spann showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Denis Fawcett, who was totally free with the ball in the 86th minute. Kris Nicholson fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 88th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Vic Johnston having to interfere. Boston Red Sox's supporters were very happy and cheered loudly because their team had won after a very close match.
