Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Wigan Wolves's Pete Roche started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ronny Halford made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pierre Horner in the 3rd minute of play. In the 6th minute, Pete Roche hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. An unexpectedly hard shot by Pierre Horner in the 13th minute of play forced Wigan Wolves's goalkeeper Ronny Halford to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Hayden Newton kicked well hit freekick during the 13th minute of the match. In the 19th minute of the match, Orson Chandler got a very nice opportunity to score, but Ronny Halford was well-placed and pushed the ball away from the goal at the left post. Max Oddy could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 20th minute of the match, but Ronny Halford made a huge save. Orson Chandler received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 22nd minute. Ronny Halford tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. Pierre Horner's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ronny Halford read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 23rd minute of play. Max Oddy could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 28th minute of the match, but Ronny Halford made a huge save. Ross Dove made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Pete Roche in the 30th minute of play. When Zak Bridgeworth fell near the penalty area in the 30th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored Everton AFC's protests and gave Zak Bridgeworth a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Wigan Wolves booed when Everton AFC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 30 match minutes in a wonderful position. Zak Bridgeworth didn't get a good kick on the ball. Ross Dove showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Pete Roche in the 36th minute of the match. Wigan Wolves's Pete Roche got a good chance for a goal in the 38th minute, but he totally mistimed the shot and it went over the crossbar. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 0-0 after a close first half.

If Pete Roche had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 52nd minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Orson Chandler recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 59th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 66 minutes into the game, Pete Roche lined in a short shot 0-1 behind a frustrated Ross Dove. 74 minutes into the match, Wigan Wolves's goal looked a bit too open when Orson Chandler came free, but Ronny Halford reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. In the 79th match minute, Wigan Wolves was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tristram Edgson to maneuver through the defense. Max Oddy hit a great freekick 80 minutes into the match. Ross Dove was in the perfect position, and the defense had done a good job marking him, but Pete Roche showcased his skills and made a perfect shot to score 0-2 in the 82 minute of play. Orson Chandler recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 89th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After some careless play in the Wigan Wolves defense, Orson Chandler kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Ronny Halford. The Wigan Wolves fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Ronny Halford should have stopped the shot. Wigan Wolves's players went to the stands to thank the travelling support. The fan's backing had helped spurr the team on to a fine performance that won them the match.
