Spectators: 5000 (Terracing: 4000, Seating: 1000, VIP seats: 0) Derby United's Johnny Coombe started the match with a crisp pass. The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. In the 9th minute the ball was on its way in behind Derby United's goalkeeper Wally Findley, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Daniel Phimister succeeded in the game's 13th minute to shoot an unreachable shot under the crossbar and scored - 1-0. In the 16th minute of the match Jacob Brearley shot from a long distance. The ball could have gone into the goal to the right of the goalkeeper, but Bob Nelthorpe showed his good shape when he easily got hold of the ball. Wally Findley made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Miles Ring in the 17th minute of play. In the 19th match minute, Orpington FC was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Martin Barrow to maneuver through the defense. An unexpectedly hard shot by Fitz Furlong in the 23rd minute of play forced Derby United's goalkeeper Wally Findley to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Miles Ring recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 29th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. 34 minutes into the match, Orpington FC's goalkeeper Bob Nelthorpe had to clear away a ball on his right side after a cunning shot by Daniel Phimister. In the 35th minute Johnny Coombe shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Bob Nelthorpe saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Fitz Furlong sent away a hard shot on goal in the 38th minute, but the ball hit the crossbar and went out. A very good chance for a goal. 41 minutes into the match, Johnny Coombe dribbled the ball past the defender and swiftly kicked the ball to the left of Bob Nelthorpe, 2-0. In the 45th minute, Miles Ring hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. Bob Nelthorpe stood somewhat misplaced when Daniel Phimister came free in front of goal and shot 3-0 to the left of him in the 48 minute. When the referee blew for the end of the half the home team players were clearly happier, as they went in to the break leading 3-0.

The wind increased when Miles Ring made the kick off in the second half. After a rather tough play, Derby United's Charlie Graydon got a free kick in the 54th minute. Fitz Furlong fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 55th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Wally Findley having to interfere. Wally Findley showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Miles Ring, who was totally free with the ball in the 61st minute. Johnny Coombe recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 65th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. If Johnny Coombe had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 67th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Eric Button recieved an excellent pass in front of the goal in the 69th minute. Unfortunately, he received the ball on his off foot and could only manage a weak shot that went over the goal. After a defensive mix-up in Orpington FC's zone, Johnny Coombe stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Bob Nelthorpe came out of the goal and Johnny Coombe tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. 81 minutes into the game, Tod Walters was given a yellow card after he appeared to trip an opposing player. Derby United's manager was livid on the sidelines, but the referee was unmoved and gave Orpington FC the free kick. After 81 played minutes Derby United got a freekick which was hit by Tod Walters. When Miles Ring came up free with the goalie in the 84th minute, the Orpington FC fans jumped to their feet. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that Miles Ring couldn't finish the play. Fitz Furlong's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Wally Findley read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 94th minute of play. In the 96th minute, Reggie Newland hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. In the 97th minute the ball was on its way in behind Derby United's goalkeeper Wally Findley, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. Orpington FC's players left the field with heads hung low after losing a match that had been finely balanced throughout.
