The referee ignored Rawtenstall's protests and gave Matty Lambert a yellow card for diving instead. In the 17th minute Tommy Stonehouse shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Barry Dodgson saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Tommy Stonehouse in the 22nd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Barry Dodgson saved Nailsworth from getting behind. Crispin Sheppard's late challenge caught a Rawtenstall's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Crispin Sheppard helped the player get up and apologised. In the 23rd match minute, Nailsworth was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Crispin Sheppard to maneuver through the defense. After some fancy dribbling in the 25th minute, Tommy Stonehouse managed to get in a good position for a shot. Rawtenstall's supporters rose to their feet, but Tommy Stonehouse was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Barry Dodgson breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. Nailsworth's Des Bowen couldn't find anyone to pass the ball to, so he shot a long shot towards the goal in the 36th minute. The shot went wide which resulted in a goal kick for Rawtenstall. Sammy Atkinson hit a great freekick 43 minutes into the match. In the 44th minute of the match Richie Crouch sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Barry Dodgson skillfully saved the ball. Tommy Stonehouse sent away a hard shot on goal in the 46th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Af the end of the first half the score was 1-0. The first half had gone as expected for the home team.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Tommy Stonehouse to make the kick off. Barry Dodgson showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Tommy Stonehouse in the 62nd minute of the match. Nailsworth's Barry Dodgson played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Tommy Stonehouse in the 64th minute of play.
