The crowd had been anticipating this game for weeks and the excitement in the stadium was easily visible. Ronny Chambers showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Donny Renwick, who was totally free with the ball in the 5th minute. In the 8th minute the ball was on its way in behind STAFFORD RANGERS FC's goalkeeper Ronny Chambers, but with the help of a sacrificing defense, he could catch the ball at the crossbar. When Chaz Dransfield fell near the penalty area in the 9th minute he thought he would be awarded a free kick. The referee ignored STAFFORD RANGERS FC's protests and gave Chaz Dransfield a yellow card for diving instead. The supporters of Ulverston FC booed when STAFFORD RANGERS FC was adjudged a doubtful freekick after 9 match minutes in a wonderful position. Chaz Dransfield didn't get a good kick on the ball. In the 14th minute, Rod Burns got an opportunity to score, but he didn't get a solid hit on the ball and ended up kicking it wide of the goal. Rod Burns's late challenge caught a STAFFORD RANGERS FC's player on the shin and left him crawling around in pain. The referee blew his whistle and produced the yellow card. Ulverston FC's goalkeeper really had to stretch himself to stop the ball from crossing the goal line. Luke Cross charged in rather forcefully in the 24th minute of the match, and managed to knock his opponent down. The referee showed Luke Cross the yellow card, and asked the players to shake hands before continuing play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Frank Brent in the 41st minute of play forced Ulverston FC's goalkeeper Clive Teague to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Clive Teague made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Frank Brent in the 47th minute of play. After the first half STAFFORD RANGERS FC were leading 0-1. They had played with great self confidence throughout the first half and fully deserved their lead.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Josh Frost to make the kick off. 57 minutes into the match, Frank Brent had an open shot that he just couldn't miss and scored to the right of Clive Teague. Ulverston FC's manager could be seen yelling to the referee that Frank Brent was offside, but the referee ignored the protest. 1-2. Frank Brent received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 64th minute. Clive Teague tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. An unexpectedly hard shot by Josh Frost in the 66th minute of play forced Ulverston FC's goalkeeper Clive Teague to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. Clive Teague made an important save on a dangerous shot by Frank Brent in the 70th minute. In the 76th minute Donny Renwick shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Ronny Chambers saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. During the 76th minute of the match Luke Cross completely mistimed his tackle and brought down his opponent. The referee gave Luke Cross a yellow card, his second in the match, which meant he could no longer take part in the game. The audience thought a goal was coming when Josh Frost got free with Clive Teague in the 86th minute, but the goalkeeper managed to catch the ball with a huge effort. In the 88th minute, Frank Brent fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Clive Teague, passed just outside the right post. After some careless play in the Ulverston FC defense, Frank Brent kicked a shot that curved into the net to the right of Clive Teague. The Ulverston FC fans voiced their displeasure as they felt that Clive Teague should have stopped the shot. Frank Brent fired away a screaming shot towards the goal in the 96th minute, but the shot went just over the crossbar without Clive Teague having to interfere. The away crowd were delighted with the way their team had played and cheered loudly when the final whistle sounded. STAFFORD RANGERS FC walked away with the win, even though the match was close until the end.
