With a couple of smart ball manuevers Dominik Husband in the 3rd managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rio Best saved The Real Saints from getting behind. If Brad Dunn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 4th minute. The ball went over the crossbar instead. 0-1 became the score in the 7th minute when Dominik Husband elegantly shot the ball into goal just under the crossbar. Alec Wilkinson sent away a hard shot on goal in the 12th minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Rio Best made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Brad Dunn in the 18th minute of play. Phil Price hit a great freekick 18 minutes into the match. 19 minutes into the match, The Real Saints's goal looked a bit too open when Brad Dunn came free, but Rio Best reached the ball before it rolled over the goal line. Samuel Ruddock could have scored with his fast shot on goal in the 23rd minute of the match, but Ray Archer made a huge save. If Dominik Husband had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 25th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Simon Towler hit a great freekick 33 minutes into the match. Rio Best showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Dominik Husband, who was totally free with the ball in the 35th minute. After some fancy dribbling in the 38th minute, Samuel Ruddock managed to get in a good position for a shot. The Real Saints's supporters rose to their feet, but Samuel Ruddock was a bit off balance and shot the ball just wide of the left post. Ray Archer breathed a sigh of relief and went to take the goal kick. After 39 played minutes Romford got a freekick which was hit by Simon Towler. If Brad Dunn had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 44th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. Even after changing tactics the home team jogged off the field with a 0-2 deficit. They would have to work harder if they wanted to turn things around in the second half.

Both teams looked relatively alert before the second half when the referee blew his whistle to tell Alec Wilkinson to make the kick off. The Real Saints's Kasey Booth pulled a muscle in his leg after 50 minutes and couldn't finish the game. In the 51st match minute, Romford was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Seb Lowe to maneuver through the defense. In the 59th minute of the match Kenny Titmuss sent off a long shot with destination to the right of the goalkeeper, but Rio Best skillfully saved the ball. The Real Saints's Rio Best played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Dominik Husband in the 60th minute of play. An unexpectedly hard shot by Samuel Ruddock in the 64th minute of play forced Romford's goalkeeper Ray Archer to throw himself to the left, to be able to save the ball. In the 71st minute of the match, Dominik Husband tried to roll the ball into the goal by the right post, but Rio Best saw his intentions and got control of the ball before it passed the line. 73 minutes into the game, Dominik Husband recieved a splendid long ball, split the defenders, and gently placed the ball to the left of Rio Best. Dominik Husband showed that you don't have to tear a hole in the net to score, 0-3. In the 76th minute Dominik Husband shot on, it seemed, an open goal, but Rio Best saw the ball coming and threw himself on it before it passed the goal line. Rio Best showed brilliant goalkeeper skills when he caught the ball after a hard shot from Dominik Husband in the 78th minute of the match. With a little luck, The Real Saints's Rio Best got control of the ball when Brad Dunn tried to sneak it across the goal line. Brad Dunn struck a weak shot in the 84th minute. Rio Best didn't even have to move as the ball rolled over the line well wide of the goal. A wasted opportunity for Romford. The Real Saints's Rio Best proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 90th minute of the match, managed to save The Real Saints from getting a goal against them. The referee blew the final whistle, and the away crowd roared, having watched Romford eke out a victory against a very well matched opponent.
