A fine initiative that could have resulted in a goal. The audience was convinced that Loyd Lofthouse's extremely hard shot when he got free in front of the goal was going in, but Rupert Downton was relentless in the 9th minute of the game. Al Newlyn sent away a hard shot on goal in the 22nd minute, but the ball went just over the crossbar and out. A very good chance. Loyd Lofthouse received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 24th minute. Rupert Downton tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. If Loyd Lofthouse had kept his shot down it would have been a goal in the 27th minute. The ball went over the crossbar and out instead. When Welling's Al Newlyn in the 31st minute got a chance for a shot 31st didn't hesitate and placed the ball to the right of the goalie. A beautiful save bye Paxton Hotspur's goalie prevented a goal. After having played for 47 minutes, Al Newlyn managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. Welling's supporters crossed their fingers, but Al Newlyn was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The Paxton Hotspur players were disheartened as they walked off the pitch after the first half. Welling were winning 0-2.

The hometeam waved at the audience when it was time for Daniel Whalley to strike the kick off in the second half. Abraham Maylett kicked well hit freekick during the 52nd minute of the match. A collision led to Paxton Hotspur getting a freekick after 55 minutes play. Alan Bryant hit a great ball. Rupert Downton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Loyd Lofthouse, who was totally free with the ball in the 56th minute. In the 57thth minute of the game Loyd Lofthouse who was perfectly placed tried to make a shot on goal, but Paxton Hotspur's Rupert Downton was lucky and managed to grab hold of the ball. In the 58th minute, Vince Fenwick hit a crossing free kick to the open man running down the field. The referee was alert and spotted a serious foul by Richard Featherson during the 65th minute. The player immediately received a yellow card. In the 65th match minute, Paxton Hotspur was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Richard Featherson to maneuver through the defense. A collision led to Welling getting a freekick after 68 minutes play. Karl Pullen hit a great ball. Paxton Hotspur's Rupert Downton proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 76th minute of the match, managed to save Paxton Hotspur from getting a goal against them. After a rather tough play, Paxton Hotspur's Vince Fenwick got a free kick in the 77th minute. After a defensive mix-up in Paxton Hotspur's zone, Al Newlyn stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rupert Downton came out of the goal and Al Newlyn tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. With a couple of smart ball manuevers Loyd Lofthouse in the 81st managed to get into a good position. With a left leg Rupert Downton saved Paxton Hotspur from getting behind. Richard Featherson kicked well hit freekick during the 81st minute of the match. Welling's Rich Hurst played magnificently when he managed to stop the ball from hitting the goal, after a sharp shot by Johnathon Sheldon in the 84th minute of play. In the 86th minute, Loyd Lofthouse fired away a killer shot towards the goal that, to the delight of Rupert Downton, passed just outside the right post. After a defensive mix-up in Paxton Hotspur's zone, Loyd Lofthouse stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Rupert Downton came out of the goal and Loyd Lofthouse tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. Vince Fenwick kicked well hit freekick during the 91st minute of the match. Rupert Downton showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Loyd Lofthouse, who was totally free with the ball in the 93rd minute. When the match was over Welling could go home with a victory in their luggage, having controlled the game far better than Paxton Hotspur throughout the match.
