In the 12th match minute, Stevenage was awarded a freekick, the ball was picked up by Tony Harrington to maneuver through the defense. But the shot missed the goal by a fraction of an inch, and the fans sat back down disappointed that John-Paul Denham couldn't finish the play. When the match clock showed 49 minutes, the score became 1-1 when Leigh Horseman sped through Stevenage's defense and sent away a curving shot that went into the net to the right of Loyd Hicks. The fans had the chance to grab some refreshments as the whistle went for half-time. The score stood at 1-1 after a close first half.

The players of the home team were most fresh-looking when they entered the field to play the second half. Leigh Horseman was the one to do the kick off. After some fancy dribbling in the 55th minute, Lawrence Holdsworth managed to get in a good position for a shot. Thanks to some nice foot action and superb ball handling Leigh Horseman in the 82nd minute a chance for a shot on goal. With an extended leg and a bit of luck Loyd Hicks prevented the ball from getting in the gole. With a little luck, Stevenage's Loyd Hicks got control of the ball when Anthony Prince tried to sneak it across the goal line. Stevenage's Loyd Hicks proved his good apprehension of play when he, in the 85th minute of the match, managed to save Stevenage from getting a goal against them.
