Ruben Rowett made a wonderful reflex save on a shot from Piers Deaconsfield in the 12th minute of play. Ruben Rowett took care of the ball after a well-directed shot from Piers Deaconsfield, even though the ball almost passed him on his left side. 19 minutes into the game, one of Chester-le-Street City:s players got tackled near the goal, and the referee blew for a penalty. When the match had been going on for 20 minutes, New Marske's Adrian Pilkington got an opportunity to shoot a penalty. He stayed cool and waited for the goalkeeper to move, before he confidently shot the ball into the goal, to the left of Ruben Rowett. Piers Deaconsfield's shot was meant for the net just under the crossbar, but Ruben Rowett read the situation well and was quickly in position to make a wonderful save in the 25th minute of play. With a little luck, Chester-le-Street City's Ruben Rowett got control of the ball when Larry Dibb tried to sneak it across the goal line. Jermaine Vaughan showed his good apprehension of the play when he made a fantastic save on a shot from Scott Blakeley, who was totally free with the ball in the 33rd minute. The referee felt a red card was in order, 38 minutes into the game, when Des Sharpe put in a rough tackle. When the second half was about to start, both teams quickly lined up and Larry Dibb made a kick off. Nath Dunn received a nice pass in the box and took a hard shot in the 82nd minute. Ruben Rowett tensed up and prepared to dive, but the shot went over the goal with him having to interfere. After a defensive mix-up in Chester-le-Street City's zone, Larry Dibb stole the ball and had only the goalie to beat. Ruben Rowett came out of the goal and Larry Dibb tried to chip the ball over his head. To his dismay, the ball went over the crossbar and out of play. After having played for 90 minutes, Larry Dibb managed to get in a good position for a shot on goal. New Marske's supporters crossed their fingers, but Larry Dibb was, after a quick turn that froze the defenders, out of balance and shot the ball just to the right of the goal. The second half was just like the first, even and exciting. The match ended in a draw.
